SPONSOR OF THE MONTH (MARCH ’19)

Cassandra Octavia, from Omega.

As of this sponsor, we have decided to ditch the sponsors battle and instead just featuring a sponsor at random and writing up an article on them! It’s the same layout, same questions, just a different approach!

So without further ado, give a warm round of virtual applause to Cassandra Octavia who is Sponsor of the Month March ’19!

      About FFXIV

When and why did you start playing FFXIV?
I started playing in October 2017, two of my friends IRL mentioned it a lot and one of them was streaming raids with his (and now my) FC. At roughly the same time, Lucahjin was sharing a bunch of screenshots on twitter, so I found it on sale on Steam and thought I’d try it out. I’ve been hooked ever since!

What kind of player are you? (casual, hardcore, hardcore fat cat enthusiast maybe?)
I’m a completionist, which is an issue when you have five years of content to catch up on! I’m not at the stage of doing Savage raids yet, but I’m kinda dipping my toes into everything else.

What are your favorite jobs?
Paladin has been and will probably always be my main job, I always gravitate towards Tanks (especially because being harder to kill gives you more leeway when learning new things) and Paladin fits my playstyle a little better than the other two. Ninja is quickly becoming my favourite DPS though, I picked it up last month and I love how fluid it is.

Do you enjoy crafting and gathering?
I do! I picked up a couple of each for clearing out my inventory and now I’m at high 40s if not 50 for every Hand/Land class except Alchemist, Leatherworker and Fishing. I am very easily distracted.

What is your favorite FFXIV boss?
Bearing in mind I haven’t fought every trial so far (I’m at Patch 4.2 and I’ve not done any raids or the Warring Triad, for example), my favourite is Susano. It’s a good difficulty spike in the MSQ, good background music, interesting mechanics, and THAT quicktime event!

Do you have a favorite duty? Why is it your favorite?
Probably Brayflox’s Longstop (Normal). It’s a good litmus test, especially for tanks because you have to be able to herd and position friends and foes alike, one of a Tank’s most important skills. And I like the rainforest. We’ll get to that.

Who is your favourite NPC and why?
Can I nominate an entire beast tribe for this? Because as soon as I met the 789th, I knew they were going to be my favourite NPCs. Just something about these supposedly fearsome and territorial creatures being cowardly/insane/openly backstabbing (delete as appropriate) is just really entertaining to me. If I can’t nominate the entire beast tribe, my favourite single NPC is probably the Sassmaster General herself, Alisaie Leveilleur, because she has some of the best dialogue in Stormblood and I have a bad memory.

      About FFXIV Screenshots

When and why did you join the FFXIV Snaps Community?
I actually didn’t realise FFXIV Snaps was a community at first, I started the Twitter account last year and thought “Okay, what hashtags are FFXIV screenshot takers using?” The two less-obvious ones were #ffxivsnaps and #egiglamour (wink wink), so I just started using them. Then when the Snaps account started liking my pictures I realised and from there found the respective communities.

When did you first feel inspired by taking screenshots?
It kinda goes back to how I started the game in general, I used to take snaps and send them to the two IRL friends as a “this is how far I am, this is cool” thing. Originally the twitter account was supposed to be a kind of travel blog, but then the screenshots themselves slowly took more importance. Figuring out how to use gpose, funnily enough, came later.

What is your favorite thing about taking screenshots?
I feel like it’s a really unique way for people to show what they love about the game. FFXIV is in a really unique space where it has MMO levels of content (natch) but with amazing graphics, so there’s a huge world full of places and people and props to take snapshots of.

What are your favorite places for screenshotting?
Most of my screenshots are in La Noscea, because it has a good diverse biome between rainforests, caves, beaches, lakes and whatever Outer La Noscea is. My favourite specific locations are Bronze Lake in Upper La Noscea, and Limsa Lominsa itself has lots of good settings too.

Do you have any favorite screenshotters?
If I were to list them all, we’d be here all night! Firstly I want to shoutout to all the Femroe out there, from all the census data we’re the smallest group but it seems as though every one is in the community. Particularly I want to shoutout @NaschaStrig, @roefizzlebeef and @GrimPompus, as well as @femroes who has an amazingly apt handle. I also like @FFXIVCouple and @MalkovichFF14/@NeishaRayne, I like the in-character dynamic of couples doing couple things, but it also makes the technical side twice as hard! And finally, @travalier_ffxiv, who got me into this, and @Austere_Rose, whose style I’ve been failing to imitate for the last 9 months! (Get well soon Lili!)

Time to show us some of your work!

Your best landscape:

Your most memorable screenshot (tell us the story behind it!):

The story behind this one: This one just started out as some experimentation and trying to take a snap for the twitter account avatar, but looking back it signified two things:
1) Cassandra’s look and personality, even though she was Elezen at the time. Through several fantasias and aesthetician visits later, I always gravitate towards the red hair and the playful snark.
2) I was still getting used to gpose (lighting was and still is my bane), I had stayed away from expressions until then, and this was before emote overrides, but I kinda stumbled upon the perfect pose/expression/situation combo.
