   About FFXIV

After a long search through several MMO starting from Ultima Online on small free-shard I took a second look at FFXIV after it’s rebirth. Even after abandoning it once I came back to it because there is no other MMO like it in my opinion. The freedom to play different roles with one character and the amazing visuals and screenshot tools made me stay.

Why did you choose your current race?

“Going Cat” was partly to tease one of my fellow FC members who was kind of obsessed with catgirls at this time and probably still is, but not so crazy about it anymore. But I grew fond of the ears and the tail. Every once in a while I think of changing back, but I really like being a cat. Yes, Hrothgar is always a possibility, but they are too burly for my taste.

Tell us a bit about your character (personality, what do you like most about him/her, etc).

I have not played out anything RP-wise, but as a roleplayer off-screen I tend to fill my alter-egos with a story. Amalia is shy, but determined. She helps wherever she can, quietly but with all her heart. I really like her confidence in what she wants to accomplish, even though she might not be the best at it.

What is the most important part of the game for you, and why do you keep coming back to it?

I like how helpful people are and try to be helpful myself. Amalia is actually my second character and second try at FFXIV, the first didn’t go so well after a while. I like running content with people I know and I can talk to, laughing, chatting, failing miserably because we all get so distracted by someone’s comment. But getting to a point like this with people requires some trust that builds up slowly. So I am often on my own, and during these times I love to take screenshots, hunt for glamour items or just stand around and take in how beautiful this game is.

What was the best experience you had in-game?

One epic run of Eden’s Gate: Descent. I was off-tanking and, as happens quite often with 2 kids, real life came first and I had to go. I left my fellow 7 FC members with words along the line of “Just wipe, requeue without me and whenever I come back I’ll rejoin if possible”. Well, 15 Minutes later I came back and the run was still on. The healers had rescued me out of as many AOEs as possible, the main Tank almost had a heart attack but managed somehow on his own. Everyone was having a blast and we cleared it shortly after. Amazing run with amazing people.

Which is your favorite song, and why?

This is a tough one, especially for me who does not remember any specific song in general. What I do remember is the ambient music when traversing the world and the change in music to the battle theme – unique for every region but always the same melody.

How often do you change your main jobs glamour? Do you have any preferred one?

I change often between my 2 or 3 glamours for my current main job, even between runs. So one could say I cannot choose and one would be right. But, one glamour stands out, and that is my paladin glamour themed “Valkyrie”. I have to change the hairstyle and paladin is not my main job right now, but this glamour is worth running to the Aesthetician every time.

 About FFXIV Screenshots

What would you describe your screenshot ‘style’ as?

I don’t think I developed a definite style yet. I like to try things like different poses, unusual uses of emotes, combination of emote and expression … and lighting. Natural lighting, sun flare especially. There are many shots I took that play with light.

Please, explain to us the methods or steps you take when taking a screenshot. Any tips you can give for new screenshoters?

I read and watched a few tutorials and guides on taking screens and some points stuck with me in addition to some things I like to do: setting up 3-point-lighting, contrast between character and foreground (or the intentional lack of it), ambient light effects and depth-of-field. There is no order to these things for me, but I consider them every time I take a shot. As for new shooters, do your thing. Do what makes you happy and do not worry too much about “the perfect shot”. Talking from experience, you can get lost in lining that up.

What/who inspires you for taking screenshots?

Most of my screens happen when they happen, I struggle to do anything “theme” related to be honest. I really like just flying from place to place … anything can be inspiring.

What is your favorite emote/pose?

I absolutely love “battle stance” and “victor” for their diversity. There are so many possibilities in just two emotes.

What kind of snaps do you usually take (selfy, group, landscape)?

I take mostly selfies, but I want to practice group shots some more.

This is my first screen of the Shadowbringers Expansion. A spur of the moment shot with my one of my favourite emotes.
One of the few screens I took for a sponsors challenge. I always wanted to try out arranging a shot with my chocobo … and it took a very long time to position myself, my chocobo and the sun like that. But it was worth it.
This is my favourite glam – the Valkyrie. I also love the dynamic of the paladin’s gap-closer which actually made me try out all kinds of combat actions for taking screens.
One of the most beautiful spots in the game, expecially at this time of (Eorzean) day.
